All professional-level education courses require ownership of a full set of personal dive gear including cylinders and weights. Students must own the gear to adequately complete the following courses and the individual is required to have their own professional liability insurance for SCUBA (available through International Training and Diver’s Alert Network)
Divemaster course
The SDI Divemaster Course is the first step toward professional-level certification. In this course, you'll learn to work with divers, lead certified divers, and act as a dive guide, showcasing dive sites and marine life. You'll expand your knowledge of diving physics and physiology while improving your scuba and snorkeling skills. While this course doesn't qualify you to teach SCUBA, graduates can assist an active SDI Instructor during approved courses and can supervise or guide certified divers within the limits of their prior experience and training.
At this professional level, all Divemasters must have their own gear, including cylinders, weights, and any necessary accessories to assist with training or guiding dives (such as DSMBs, knives, cutters, spools, spare masks, etc.). Divemaster students will receive special pricing at The Bearded Scuba Diver for any gear purchases.
Prerequisites:
SDI Divemaster Diver minimum requirements:

Minimum age 18

Certified SDI Advanced Adventure Diver or equivalent; advanced certification must include verifiable experience in deep, navigation, night, and limited visibility specialties

Certified SDI Rescue Diver or equivalent

Provide proof of current CPR, first aid and oxygen provider (where local law permits)*

Provided proof of at least 40 logged dives (see 3.11 for number of dives/hours required for graduation)

Satisfactorily complete the SDI Divemaster written examination, or online version with a minimum score of 80 percent and 100 percent remediation.

Complete all water requirements.

Demonstrate to an active SDI Instructor the ability to solve in-water and out-of-water diver problems.

Demonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution.
-
Operate as a Divemaster in a wide variety of environments.
During this course, you will be assisting and/or sitting through classes by The Bearded Scuba Diver in the teaching of Open Water SCUBA courses. This is ONLY for the duration of the Divemaster course and you, the individual, are required to have your own professional liability insurance for SCUBA (available though SDI and DAN).

This program is designed to develop the skills and knowlege necessary for an individual to oead vcertified divers in the open water environment.

Assistant Instructor Course
The SDI Assistant Instructor Course builds on the SDI Divemaster Program by providing practical teaching experience, lesson planning skills, and training in academic presentations. You'll work alongside an instructor to gain hands-on experience in teaching before advancing to the SDI Open Water SCUBA Diver Instructor level. After completing Specialty Instructor training with an SDI Instructor Trainer, you can qualify to teach various SDI Specialty Diver Courses.

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may:

Teach and certify students in the SDI Snorkeling Course

Conduct the SDI Inactive Diver Course

Lead the knowledge review portion of the SDI Open Water SCUBA Diver course under an active SDI Instructor’s guidance
-
Assist active SDI Instructors during approved diving courses
-
Supervise and conduct dives for certified divers within the scope of their prior training
-
Teach approved specialties after completing specialty instructor training
At this professional level, Assistant Instructors must have all their own gear, including cylinders, weights, and any necessary accessories (such as DSMBs, knives, cutters, spools, spare masks, etc.). AI students will receive special pricing on gear purchases at The Bearded Scuba Diver.

Possess the minimum instructional equipment
SDI Assistant Instructor minimum requirements:

Satisfactorily complete the SDI Assistant Instructor written examination, or online version with a minimum score of 80 percent and 100 percent remediation.

Complete all water requirements.

Demonstrate to an active SDI Instructor the ability to solve in-water and out-of-water diver problems.

Demonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution.

Operate as a Assistant Instructor in a wide variety of environments including assisting in all required courses.

Demonstrate all skills from the Open Water Scuba Diver course to instructor quality while neutrally buoyant.
During this course, you will be assisting and/or sitting through classes by The Bearded Scuba Diver in the teaching of Open Water SCUBA courses. This is ONLY for the duration of the Divemaster course and you, the individual, are required to have your own professional liability insurance for SCUBA (available though SDI and DAN).
